The upstream industry in undergoing long term permanent change after years of over leveraging to acquire and develop resource fields with enormous new technology investment. This over leverage, traditional bank and capital markets illiquidity, long-term operator downsizing and portfolio rationalization and long-term supply/demand imbalances will require producing assets to partner or change hands  for years to come.
